Once she feels comfortable, Mariah is a wonderfully social girl who enjoys the company of both humans and her fellow greyhounds. She has shared her kennel with a couple of lovely boys during her time with us and has gotten along beautifully with them. Other hounds really help her confidence rise, like the perfect harmony she needs to feel safe.
There is something about having another greyhound close by that gives her reassurance in a way we humans cannot quite replicate. Because of this, we truly feel she would do best in a home with another greyhound or two to help show her that home life can be calm, kind, and nothing to fear. She may have the potential to live as an only dog, but this would need to be a very special match with humans who are around most of the time at first, ready to offer patience, reassurance, and plenty of gentle love while she finds her rhythm.
Because of her shy and sensitive nature, Mariah would thrive best in a calm and understanding home with adults or teenagers. A very busy household with young or noisy children could be a little overwhelming for her and might stop her from fully finding her voice.
