We have been slowly and thoughtfully introducing Figgy to new people, adding small confidence-building steps to help her feel more secure in the outside world. She now visits the cuddle shed with volunteers so she can begin forming bonds beyond the staff team, and she is doing beautifully.
She is still unsure and not fully comfortable, but she settles more quickly each time as long as her space is respected and everything happens at her own gentle pace. If you take Figgy home, nothing can be rushed. She cannot skip steps. Her confidence needs time to rise slowly, layer by layer, until the world no longer feels quite so overwhelming.
One of the most important things for Figgy is canine companionship. She cannot be the only dog in the home. She is currently kennelled with Comet, and their friendship has been like the sweetest figgy filling for her heart. He gives her quiet courage each day, and she looks to him for reassurance when things feel too much.
When Comet is taken away, Figgy becomes distressed and struggles to settle, her tail tucked tight underneath her, turning back into the frightened little girl we first met. It has shown us that greyhounds give her something even we cannot, a sense of safety, understanding, and calm that helps her feel whole.
Figgy bonds quickly and gently with her greyhound friends and would be happy with any kind, steady hound or two who can guide her, comfort her, and help her feel brave. On her very first walks, we made sure she was surrounded by other greyhounds, and she happily sandwiched herself between them, leaning on their confidence every step of the way.
She has made the progress she has because of them, with Comet especially becoming her lifeline. He has taken her under his wing, never letting her stray far, allowing her to be his little figgy shadow and quietly letting her know that everything will be okay.
While it would be wonderful if she could stay with Comet, Figgy loves greyhounds in general, and as long as she has a kind, caring hound by her side, she will find her bravery.
During her dog test with Blossom, Figgy truly lit up, and it was the very first time we ever saw her tail wag. The moment she spotted Blossom, her whole little face came alive, and she couldn’t wait to say hello. Her tail never stopped wagging, and the two of them even shared a sweet little zoomie session that had us all smiling. She was calm, polite, and wonderfully social, showing just how comfortable she feels around other dogs.
Because of this, we believe Figgy could also live with other breeds, as long as they are gentle, calm, and confident enough to help her feel safe. Dogs truly make life easier for Figgy, and canine companionship will always be essential for her wellbeing.
She would be best suited to a quieter or more rural home, where loud noises, heavy traffic, and crowds are not part of everyday life. Her dream is a soft, simple world filled with peaceful walks, cosy naps, slow introductions, and humans who love her exactly as she is.
Figgy is full of sweetness, softness, and quiet courage, but these beautiful traits will only shine in a home where she feels completely safe. Anyone lucky enough to welcome her into their life must be ready to give her time to trust.
