REHOME Dermot☘️

Dermot is truly a beautiful boy with the biggest heart and so much quiet, gentle love to give. There is just something so special about him that is difficult to put into words. I absolutely love how he isn’t the type of dog who is constantly in your face asking for attention, yet somehow you still feel completely loved just by being around him. His love is calm, genuine and effortless, and it is the kind that quietly finds its way into your heart before you even realise it.

Dermot is the definition of everything people know and love about greyhounds. He is the most gentle, easy-going, affectionate boy with a heart absolutely bursting with love, and from the very first moment you meet him, you can’t help but adore him. He has such a calming presence about him, taking everything in his stride and never making a fuss. He is one of those dogs who just makes everyday feel that little bit brighter simply by being himself.

He is incredibly loving and people truly are his whole world. Whether he’s leaning into you for a cuddle, quietly following you around or simply lying beside you while you relax, Dermot is happiest when he is close to the people he loves. He doesn’t ask for much in life, just love, kindness and someone to share it all with. He has the sweetest way of making you feel like you’re the most important person in the world, and the bond he builds with his humans is something really special.

Although Dermot is wonderfully chilled out and absolutely loves a good snooze (as every greyhound should!), he also has a lovely cheeky side to him that makes him so much fun to be around. He enjoys playing with his toys, having the occasional silly moment and making everyone around him smile with his gentle personality.

He loves stretching out in the sunshine whenever he gets the chance, completely embracing the slower pace of life that greyhounds do so well. He finds happiness in the little things, and watching him enjoy those simple moments is enough to make anyone smile.

There is just something so special about Dermot. He has the kindest heart, the sweetest nature and so much love to give to the people lucky enough to call him their own. He is the sort of dog who quietly works his way into your heart without even trying, and before you know it, you simply couldn’t imagine life without him. He has so much love still left to give, and we know there is a family out there who are going to absolutely adore everything about this beautiful boy.

He is just so incredibly kind. I know I keep saying that, but it really is the best word to describe him. Kindness radiates from every part of who he is, and it is one of the many reasons he is such an exceptional dog. Dermot has so much love to give, and he shares it so naturally with everyone he meets. He is a wonderfully outgoing boy who greets life with a happy-go-lucky attitude and a smile that could brighten anyone’s day. His gentle spirit, kind heart and easy-going nature bring comfort, calm and happiness wherever he goes, and you simply can’t help but fall in love with him.

Although he is never the type to push himself to the front or demand everyone’s attention, he is always so happy to receive love, fuss and affection. He has such a gentle way about him that makes every cuddle feel that little bit more special. I truly believe this boy was made for home life and everything that comes with it. Long naps stretched across the sofa, cosy cuddles with his family, sunny afternoons in the garden and, of course, plenty of room for those wonderfully mad five minutes of zoomies that remind you he still has that playful spark inside him.

When Dermot gives you his heart, he gives you all of it, and trust me when I say having this boy’s heart is an honour. He loves deeply, quietly and wholeheartedly, and the bond he builds with his people is something truly special. He has the most beautiful soft, affectionate nature, perfectly balanced with a cheeky and playful side that we have seen blossom more and more every single day. The longer he has been with us, the more his personality has shone through, and he can certainly be a right cheeky chap when he wants to be.

Dermot settled into life here at the kennels as though he had always belonged. From the moment he arrived, he has been absolutely exceptional. He settled into his kennel with ease, adapted so naturally to his new surroundings and has always got along beautifully with the other greyhounds. He has one of those lovely personalities that means no matter who he is paired with, he simply takes it all in his stride. He is easy-going, adaptable and such a pleasure to have around.

In fact, Dermot is one of my most used dogs for our Meet the Breed appointments because he is such a perfect ambassador for retired racing greyhounds. I know for a fact he has helped so many of his kennel friends find their forever homes simply by showing people exactly how wonderful greyhounds are. He has that calm, loving presence that instantly puts people at ease, and it is impossible not to adore this sweetheart of a boy once you’ve met him.

Dermot is more than happy sharing his kennel with female greyhounds and is a very social boy with his greyhound friends, so we know he would happily share his forever home with a female greyhound companion. Equally, he is such a people-focused and independent boy that I have no doubt he would also thrive as the only dog in the home, soaking up every bit of love and attention for himself. He really is the sort of dog who is simply happy as long as he has people to love.

I also think Dermot would make an absolutely wonderful work-from-home companion. He is so beautifully chilled out and content just being close to his humans that I can picture him happily snoozing beside your desk all day, occasionally lifting his head for a fuss before settling back down for another nap. He doesn’t need constant entertainment. Just being near the people he loves is enough to make him happy.

Dermot absolutely adores people, but we do feel older children aged 10 years and over would suit him best. He is such a relaxed, easy-going boy who enjoys a calm lifestyle, and we know he would appreciate children who understand that sometimes a greyhound simply wants to enjoy a peaceful nap after a nice walk. Of course, he would also happily enjoy playtime and family life, but having children who can respect his space when he needs a little quiet time will allow him to truly flourish. Equally, we think he would be perfectly happy in an adult-only home or with teenagers, where he can simply enjoy each day alongside his family at his own relaxed pace.

Now, I know you’re probably reading all of this and wondering how such an incredible boy could possibly be colour coded orange.

Dermot has found his dog tests a little more challenging and hasn’t quite worked out that Blossom is actually another dog. At times he can become a little stalky and occasionally a little snappy, but we genuinely believe that with time, patience and plenty of positive socialisation, he will continue to make lovely progress. He will simply need a family who are willing to support him on that journey and help him build his confidence around other breeds.

The truth is, this is only a tiny part of who Dermot is. Sadly, being a beautiful black greyhound who hasn’t yet passed his dog test can immediately put him at a disadvantage when families are choosing which dog to adopt. But if there is one thing I have learnt over the years, it is that the dogs who sometimes need a little extra support often become some of the most incredible companions once they are settled into home life. Dermot has every quality you could wish for in a best friend, and I truly believe that with love, patience, praise and positive experiences, he will continue to grow in confidence and learn that other dogs don’t need to worry him.

He has spent every day showing us just how kind, loving and special he is, and now it is time for someone to see in him exactly what we all do.

We know there is a family out there who are going to be incredibly lucky to call Dermot their own. He has so much love still left to give, so many happy memories still waiting to be made and a whole lifetime of companionship waiting for the people who choose him. Trust me when I say that opening your heart and home to Dermot won’t just change his life, it will change yours too.
